JKG presents at Greece's "Cut & Paste: Dance Advocacy in the Age of Austerity"
In a roundtable called "Contemporary Ballet – global economies and cultural/national exchanges”, I presented my research and experiences producing CounterPointe for the last 4 years, alongside colleagues, Dr. Ann Nugent, Forsythe scholar (what super lady!) and the irrepressible Dr. Kathrina Farrugia-Kriel.
This presentation has been part of an important process illuminating the role of contemporary ballet and considering women's identities in a field that has been dominated by men in the top leadership roles.
My presentation was titled: CounterPointe: women making new work for pointe: Austerity, Opportunity, Sustainability. (Since presenting this paper I have changed the format of CounterPointe to include collaborations and visual artists. Soon I may include 30% men.)
And here's a little Athens fun inspired by the Dora Stratou Dance Theatre!
